My mother's bathroom renovation

My mother's bathroom renovation is done! (As many of you know, my own renovation has been on hold for more than a year, but fortunately we were able to use most of my hardware and trim in my mother's bath.)

It's ming green marble (6x12 on the bottom, 3x6 in a herringbone pattern on the top), with a carrera-and-ming pinwheel mosaic pattern on the floor.

Walk-in shower with a bench, rainshower, handshower. The two showerheads are controlled from the same valve, and can go on separately or together. The handshower slides up and down a bar (to be a body jet) and also has a little holster over the bench.

The accent tile mosaic, the medicine cabinet, the mirrored vanity (really a nightstand) and white marble vessel sink

The towel bar is really a grab bar.

The picture doesn't do the light fixture justice. It's five balls of glowing glass threads, like hamsters.

And what, I hear you asking, is that funny toilet seat? It's a Japanese-style bidet

If you're in the area, come visit!

Suzanne! This bathroom is simply gorgeous! Congratulations! The tile mosaic is beautiful! The nightstand does look GREAT and is the perfect solution, plus the shorter height serves a purpose. The functional towel bar in the shower is perfect as well. I love the colors, the fixtures, and the relaxing ambience all of the elements combine to create. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Wowie ! What a major make-over. Hard to believe it is the same space as before. I'm such a sentimental that I guess I will always look for the nice ladies adorning the walls, but you have made a very nice and functional bathroom that is creative, stylish, and surely full of nice acoustics ! I'll look forward to singing there one day. :)

Thanks for sharing these neat photos... enjoy !
    Love,
    Becca

    1. The ming green marble (3x6 and 6x12) is from C-Line Granite in New Hyde Park, NY. (Our contractor was a little unhappy at some variations in thickness and quality control, but he's a perfectionist, and you can't tell now that it's up!) C-Line has great prices - and stocks
6x12's - but they do not ship; you have to pick up the tile yourself.

The carrera and ming pinwheel is from Marble N Things in Jersey City, NJ.

The mosaic accent is a pattern called "Celestial" - we saw it at Artistic Tile, but bought it in a different colorway at Ceramic Creations in Monsey, NY.

  4. Wow! What a bathroom your mother has. But you know what I like about it the most? Well, it's the stainless steel chromed cabinet; it's that what you call it? Anyway, the cabinet certainly made the room more spacious compared to a room that doesn't have that kind of cabinet.

  5. I do agree with everyone here that the bathroom looks gorgeous! And yes, that tile mosaic is the star of the renovation! But I do love that awesome sink too! All in all, the bathroom looks splendid and it exudes such simplicity and class, like those baths in the Upper East Side.

  6. Your mother must be really happy when she saw the final outcome of her renovated bathroom! I really like that glass shower room. I don’t know why, but for me, it gives off elegancy in your bathroom. :]

I happened to click on this link in my "favorites" and saw the updates. Wow, the bathroom looks incredible. I love mirrored furniture and have never seen it in a bathroom but it's such a good idea! It makes the bathroom look bigger and it's all glass and mirror like elements of water and light with the subtle green hints.

I'm moderating comments because I got a lot of spam recently. But don't let that deter you if you're a real person with something relevant to say!

About Me

I just bought my first home - an estate-sale 1BR prewar co-op on the UWS in Manhattan. It needs a new kitchen, a new bathroom, new windows, and the parquet floors restored. (Other than that, it's perfect!) This blog is for sharing my renovation ideas and adventures with friends, family, and fellow renovators.
